Košicka Bela

Košická Belá is a municipality in Slovakia in the Košice-okolie district. The village lies in the Hámorská furrow Kojšovská hoľa, which occupies the eastern part of the Volovské Hills. The Belá brook flows through a narrow valley and flows into the Ružín reservoir. District and county town is 20 km southeast, Gelnica lies 21 km northwest and the same direction are 29 km distant Krompachy.

History

The village developed as originally four separate municipalities. In 1944 Little Folkmar was attached to the village of Košické Hámre. In 1967, Košické Hámre was merged with Košická Bela and two years later the village of Ružín was attached to it.
The name of the village is documented from 1297 as a flumen Bela, from 1397 as a villa Johannis, from 1440 as Janusffalwa, al. n. Zenthwer, 1505 as Zenthwerfalwa, 1553 as Szentuerkepe, 1580 as Hansdorff, 1630 as Zentvérképe, 1650 as Bela, 1920 as Košice Bela; in Hungarian Kassabéla.
The municipality was administratively included in the Abov-Turnian county; before 1960 under district Košice, region Košice; after 1960 under the district of Košice-countryside, East Slovakia region.
The developed village is mentioned from 1397, the creek of that name from 1297. It belonged to the Sokoľ estate, from 1429 to the city of Košice. In 1491 it was plundered by Polish troops.

Location and climate

Košická Belá is located in the northeastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains in the Hornád valley and its right-side tributary. Altitude in the center of the village is 380 m. m., in the middle of Kosice Hamre is 315 m. m., in the middle of Ružín 260 m above sea level. m., in the area 259-918 m n. m. The rocky to highland surface of the area consists of diorites, gabras and beautified limestone (the Great and Small Ružínska Cave). In the southern part is an iron ore deposit, in the northern copper deposit. The Ružín Dam in the broken valley of the Hornád River flooded parts of the former villages of Košické Hámre and Ružín. Deforested is the surroundings of the settlements, the beech forest dominates with the admixture of the earl.

Tourist attractions

Roman Catholic Church John the Baptist, a one-nave modernist building with a semicircular finished presbytery and a tower from 1938-1941. The main facade is dominated by a triangular gable with a relief cross. Windows without chambranes are semicircularly finished. The tower has a pyramid helmet.
