Modra is old wine town and is one of the landmarks of the Small Carpathian wine region. It lies on t he southeastern slopes of Little Carpathians, which are a protected area. Modra is one of the largest wine-growing towns of the Slovak Republic but also the capital of ceramics, schools, historical sites, culture, science, research and recreation, city of wine and service.
