Zazriva

Village Zázrivá is located in northwestern Slovakia. Its cadastral territory extends into three mountain ranges - Kysucká vrchovina, Oravská Magura and Mala Fatra. It consists of 11 valleys: Biela, Plešivá, Dolina, Ráztoky, Grúne, Petrová, Demkovská, Havrania, Kozínska, Končitá, Ústredie. History

The village was founded as a Wallachian village on the territory of the Orava Castle manor. The first written mention is from 1556. At that time Zazriva had 150 to 200 inhabitants. The inhabitants moved to the mountains at the time of the summer, but the families gradually settled in the places where they were in the summer, and so the settlements of Zázrivej such as Ráztoky, Havrania, Petrová, Biela and others were created. In 1615, the definitive boundaries of Zázrivej were determined. In 1785 Zazriva was 2030 inhabitants, in 1828 2600 inhabitants, later their number decreased due to epidemics and emigration. In the 1970s Zázrivá was the largest village in Orava, with over 4100 inhabitants. Then the number of inhabitants fell to about half. Jan Nepomuk Drengubiak - priest, painter, carver, born on 31 October 1781, was born in Zázrivá. Location and climate

Zázrivá lies in a picturesque setting in the lower Orava region in the north-western part of Slovakia. The altitude of the village is 600 m.nm and the area is 67, 250 km2. Dominant of Zázrivá is known as Veľký Rozsutec (1610 m.n.m.) and Malý Rozsutec (1343 m nm).
The cadastral area of the village is defined by the cadastral boundary and has a trapezoidal shape. Its shorter sides form the eastern and northern borders, the longer sides of the southwest and the western border.

The Church of Assumption of Virgin Mary was built in 1928 by the then priest and dean Ján Briššák on 1 April 1866 - 2 January 1928, who then worked in Zázrivá. He came from Rabč and finished the building no longer. It was built in 1933. The church was consecrated at the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. At that time the priests Kočiš and the chapel of Balar worked in the parish. The church is built in a modern style with preserved lines of Romanesque style. Equipped with an organ, at that time the largest on Orava, which was imported from Tirol.
The old burnt church (Church of All Saints) is located on the outskirts of the village at the cemetery. The first wooden church was built in 1705. It was reported in the Center at the beginning of the Upper Valley (now called Kostelec) and was sold to Žašek. A brick church was built in 1720. The construction of another stone-built stone church in Zázrivá began in 1791 and was completed in 1796. It was built in late-baroque style on the grounds of the old cemetery. The church consisted of a ship, a sacristy, and a small courtyard, which at the same time formed the main entrance. The church had three entrances in total. Besides the main altar, there were two lateral altars. True, consecrated Virgin Mary and left Michal Archaniel. On the main altar there was the statue of the Divine Heart of Jesus in life-size.

In the vicinity of Zázrivá there is a lot of possibilities for hiking or exploring the region. The neighboring village is the village of Terchová, where lovers of folk tradition come to their destination.
