History
The amount of mineral alkaline springs (together 23) was famous for Krynica (according to the official name of Krynica-Zdrój) already in the middle of the 19th century. At that time, the spa houses grew like mushrooms, but the complete start of the baths was associated with the name of the Austrian officer, Franz Stix von Saunbergen, who bought the land with the sources and developed them.
At the end of the 19th century, this town was visited by about 6,000 people a year for bathing. One year before the outbreak of World War II, it was 38,000 people a year. However, the city was ruined by the Second World War, and had rose slowly from the ashes until the end of the 1950s.
